Everyone add your questions to this thread only. Please make them in the format:
NAME: QUESTION:
And please, only one question per post. That makes it easier for us to delve through them. Thanks!!
I'm going to get together with Ed a few days before the live interview and we'll start going through and trying to answer the "pre-posted" questions in advance, so that we'll have more time to address the "live" inquiries on 1/21/06 (which at the time of this posting is only 12 days away) . . . so please post your questions here in as concise a manner as possible . . . He really wants to try and respond to everybody.
Thanks so much for your time - Joel

Oldtimer1 (Rich), How is your recovery from your stroke going? We are all pulling for you through that devastating illness. I use to have your poster from Pumping Iron that you signed for me during the movie premier week for many years. I wish I still had it.

In the famous pumping Iron Squat scene where you blast out 12-15 reps using 3 plates a side which is incredible, i'm curious to know just how much Arnold worked up to? (If you remember that is )
Thanks

How did you train for power and strength in those days when you wanted size? - sets / reps / exercises / nutrition? How did this style of training compare to your contest style?

Question: Ed, could you describe some of the workouts you did with Arnold during the summer of 1975 when you were training for the Mr. Olympia contest? I'm especially interested in how you and Arnold trained arms and back.

Question: Ed, in the 1960s and 1970s there seemed to be more of a commaderie among the top competitors than there is toay. In the magazies, we would see photos of you guys training together and hanging out with each other. Can you tell us what it was like being around and training with your fellow IA legends? Thanks

Question: It appears that in modern bodybuilding, posing is a lost art and seems to have little bearing in competition. During the Ironage, how much of a bodybuilder's success or lack of, did you attribute to knowing how to pose? In other words, was it really that important? (I hope so! )
Thank you.

Hi, I'm here with Ed. We're ready to start answering questions. I'll log off and then we'll log into Ed's account. This will be a slow process . . . so please be patient. I'm a slow typist and Ed likes to think before he speaks.

Hey Ed , first of all it is rly a great honor to ask u my question
name: Johnny
question : When you were working out with Arnold in Pumping Iron doing squats. At the 9 or 10th rep it looked like you couldnt do any rep more but , then Arnold said C'mon up up! no matter what 2 more! and you did! So , my question is , What gave you the extra strength of doing the last 2 reps, and what do you think of , when you need to go thrue the pain area instead of backing out because of fear or doubt?

1. The weights that I use now are still very heavy. I eat healthy, but not like I’m dieting for a show. Of course, I still focus on keeping a high protein intake as well. I take a multi- vite and mineral suplement and eat well and this enables me to use those heavy weights that I was talking about. For example, today at age 72, I do shrugs with 5 plates on each side, dumbbell triceps kickbacks with 130 lb. dumbbells . . . . . basically I scare everybody at the fitness center.
2. Hardest trainer . . . It’s hard to say . . . You really can’t single out one individual, however, Arnold was focused, determined and disciplined . . . And really, of course, stands out in my mind as a “tough” trainer.
3. As far as the current state of bodybuilding, I have to say that one should accept “progress” in every sport and that’s what I see happening today in bodybuilding. The physiques are amazing today and the public loves it.

Please keep in mind also that there will be a delay in answering questions. Joel will be typing as fast as he can but they can only answer questions one at a time. If yours gets skipped our apologies ahead of time. So just relax, mix up a protein shake to sip on and enjoy the ride!
