Howard, that's pretty good weight for bench pressing. Did that come from normal bodybuilding training or have you at one time trained with the purpose to bring it up. I think I saw posts from you that you did some powerlifting too so I'm sure that helps out. Personally, my bench pressing stinks. My best is 275 for 10...on an extremely good day. My squat and dead's are alot better so I blame my bench pressing on wider than normal shoulders plus long arms. It always amazes me to see guys knock out 5 or 6 reps with 325 lb's because it's something I've never been able to do.

Howard,
That is great what is your age? Recently when the owner of Blair's Protein Jim Shiblom came to Los Angeles we trained at World's. Jim did 315 for 6 reps in the bench press and I did 315 for 5 reps. I am 55 and Jim is 52.

You guys benched that much at your age. That is tremendous. Your joints must have have held up. Most bodybuilders cannot bench press heavy when they reach 40 or 45 anymore. I know one guy who could bench 315 for 8 reps and we all knew he was natural because he was heavy boned. Today at age 49, the guys joints are gone and he can only bench press 255 for 6 reps, which is along way from what he did when he was 35

Wow! You guy's over 50 are an inspiration!! I am 33 and people tell me that I will not be able to work out like I do in my 50's. I hae always thought I could as I knew guys from a gym that could who where this age 15 years ago. They moved slower than I but they had a routine they followed and the weights they moved where awsome, learned much from these ol cats. I have maxed out with 440 and have at that time been able to rep 315 for 10-12 best. I had suffered shoulder bursitis from too much maxing that put me out f pressing for seven months. I am now back on the climb and will do so more logicaly and patiently. Now pressing 315 for 6 and put up 365 without to much problem. Again, you guys keep it up, those are good lifts as I know most guys your age cannot even chop firewood without a rest.

hold on there babba louie: "can't chop firewood".....thems fightin' words, lol.
that just proves that smart sensible training can carry a person over their lifetime. closing in on 50 myself, some exercises I am actually stronger at than I was 25 years ago, some have held steady, and some I will not even go near any longer.
I always train at a fast pace, no more then 60 secs between sets, often supersetting opposing bodyparts. no rest inbetween muscle groups. I have worn more then a few younger guys out trying to keep up with me. it's all in what you are used to.
