It is all relative. Being in the Health and Fitness business and being in Calif, where it is look oriented is different than the guy who is a truck driver in Podunk. I never wanted someone who met me to be disapointed. When I was doing many trade shows I had to be an example of my own program.
The pressure Sly is under to look a certain way, is immense. Since we are youth driven we do things to look better, sometimes it becomes a bit much.
When I was over in China once, they put their elderly people on a pedistol. Here we penalize age.
Like I said in an earlier post, If Arnold gets back in the movie business you will see dramatic changes in his face an body.

An M.D. pal of mine is prescribing testosterone replacement in his medical practice for 'mature' dudes if their own production is lagging. He suggests that I try it. I've not used it, ever, and told him I wasn't interested, but I thought he had two interesting comments to my response.
The first is his opinion that medically speaking, low test levels are a risk factor for heart disease, and a host of other health and aging issues. This is in opposition to the old school 'live clean for life' approach which eschews all extra hormonal support.
The second is that he compares hormone supplementation with insulin supplementation. In other words, if you are diabetic there is no reason to avoid an insulin boost, in fact you would need it or suffer health problems. If you are running low levels of test, you are symptomatic, then there is a benefit to boosting them back up to normal readings.
Seems as if the medical community is coming around to hormone replacement therapy for men, and that it has no serious side-effects when given to those who are low testosterone producers, symptomatic.
Not the same as GH, but a similar hormonal approach for aging BB's who are starting to have some problems associated with insufficient endogenous production.

Terry,
Very thought provoking comments. The comparison of low testosterone to low insulin is quite interesting. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is growing in popularity as the baby boomer generation ages. It is certainly not without its controversy.
The whole question of healthy aging (externally and internally) is one worthy of more discussion on IRONAGE.

normal aging is not a disease that has to be treated like a disease process. I don't know why so many people think that it is. Even some degerative disease process such as type II diabetes, heart disease and some others can be reversed with lifestyle changes.
Now we have an entire generation of women suffering from the effects of HRT that was thrust upon them in the 80's and 90's. Why--because they were sold the bill of goods that the normal aging process of menopause was not "normal".
No one wants to grow old and feeble, the reality is we will all grow old, but we don't have to become feeble! Whenever I hear of some doctor speaking about "anti-aging" I think BS. If it looks like a duck it must quack.
If you like having a face that is pulled tight like a plastic mask, lips that look like they were swarmed by a hive of killer bee's, have at it. Enjoy your botox, and face lifts. If you want to play Russian Roulet with your health 15-20 years down the road, have at it with your HRT.
As for me....I will age gracefully, exercise up to my god given capacity, eat right 90% of the time, not smoke, not drink more then 2 servings of alcohol a day, take my fish oil, and laugh at the Sly's of the world--because they really don't have a clue as to how bizzare they look.

Interesting how you may have spent [as we all did on IA] thousands of cumulative workout hours in order to look good cosmetically, and to look better than nature intended as we curl, pump, supplement and diet in a quest for Herculean proportions.
In other words, what we as BB's do is analagous to those guys who may get hair transplants, or other cosmetic surgery: They just use some other resources that many of us choose not to use.
I mean if we were only after health and longevity, we could merely jog five times a week, and eat healthy. But I admire your 'don't give a dang about artificial enhancemen' stance.

The problem with HRT is high Testosorine levels on men cause a host of medical problems , it is like the many people I know on anti depressents, they are so up and down they are always having thier Doctor adjust their pills and can never seem to get it right. Also it is very hard to measure how much a person needs in HRT threrapy. It is to new and long term studies need to be done.
I know several people who have had it and besides a feeling of getting more energy and a small rise in sex drive, the overall effects were modest.
So Doc go your merry way and laugh at Sly, your comments are an example of how the Mr.Natural approach is so noble, and poor Sly blah, blah, blah.
For the last time if I hear Sly having a botched face job....... He went to the top rated guy in the whole world, not some quack in Mexico. Plastic surgery can improve flaws, and around the time of the movie Cop Land he had some work done, and it looked great. His face is simply how he is aging for a man in his mid 60's nothing more or less. You should see Arnold up close today, looks like an old man.
My aunt suffered from Ecromegoly from secreting to much GW, It disfigured her. Bodybuilders who take it have elongated forheads, and jaw line, and bone changes. not the look Sly has.
I find it interesting that some people on this forum spent thier whole lives bodybuilding and heaven forbid you should do something for your face. It is all individual, a little hair color, etc can be uplifting.
I think Oprah had a show on male menapause, it went over these topics.

I guess Arnold doesn't wear a wig.
He doesn't seem he did too much plastic surgery.

Ever wonder if super-conditioned old guys like Sly and Lou F. look at their fans like us, roughly their own vintage, and think, "Man, those old lifters really let themselves go to pot!"

Well said Doc. I'm with you but I ain't to sure about the "Gracefully" BS. My life’s goal is not to die and leave a well preserved body – when I go to my grave I want to slide in sideways, my body completely used up, kicking and screaming, "hell yea, what a GREAT ride!

Cliff get back to Calif, a liitle sun, a bit of color on the temples, and back in the Southern Ca flow and it will take ten years off you.
I am relaunching a few of my all natural Shaving products, and was at the the Health and Fitness show, Natural Products West. As I met old friends and associates, I was amazed at how many people in the Industry let themselves go. As I mentioned in an earlier post, being in the health and fitness puts pressure to look a certain way. I never wanted some one to meet me and be disapointed that I didn't practice what I preach. I have to say I was proud I made am effort to still look good.

Don,
Hey, we get sunshine 2 or 3 days a year here in Rochester, NY. I was going to do some mountain biking for aerobic training now that the snow has melted but it has not stopped raining for a week.
