I'm not diebetic but I would answer all your questions with the Zone diet in Barry Sears' books.

Thanks for your reply Burr,

I am taking this very seriously, the doctor has me testing blood sugar twice daily, then I take results back to him next week, my aim is to be able to control it with out medication.
So far two readings were high so I will not be eating what I ate on thoose days.
I have been told to loose weight this I am making sure it ill be mostly fat.(I hope)
Have along road ahead but I am putting in an effort as thisnot only effect me but my family.

You will always be a diabetic but you can control it.

You are on the right road just stay there.

How old are you john?

Now for sure get on those mailing list I told you about and then take a weekend and read.

Then you will be able to handle it better.

And the best part, HAVE A CHEAT DAY. You can't be good all the time. so one day a week cheat, have that ice cream or what ever and enjoy it then the rest of the week don't cheat.

Life's great, enjoy.

Hi there Burr

I'm 49 figured I'd have a cheat day but aiming at getting it under control first. and reducing bodyfat as well. At the momment it is seeing how my body responds to different types and quanities of carbs. After I have a better handle on it I will introduce a cheat day till then I am being strict. Ok I did break down last night and had an ice-cream.  (low carb no added sugar, skinnycow was the brand, but it did taste good.)

John, if it taste good you can't have it!!

I don't understand """At the momment it is seeing how my body responds to different types and quanities of carbs."""

Just don't eat more then 15g of sugar a day.

When I come out of the store there is a hold store full of jars and boxes turned around so I can ready the sugar. (clerks hate me)
And remember it's grams per serving. some cans have two or three servings in them

Anyway, have fun cause you got the rest of your life to fight it.

Be sure your Doctor is a Diabetes doctor ( I can't remember what they call them) and ONLY one of these doctors.

Mr.Burr the doctor who undertook my daughter's therapy is 40 years old and he is a diabetic since he was 9. I think this is good and we feel safety.

Yes But!!
How much have you read, how much do you know.

Doctors are not "always" right. I found in many (most) cases regular doctors have very little knowledge about Diabetes and the treatment and are very out of date.

I'll say no more. Good Luck.

Hi
Burr

So far read everything I can get my hands on the doctor is happy because I am managing to keep my blood suger in the nornal range and I have dropped weight (trying to make sure it is all fat).
The doctor goes over the result of my twice daily blood sugar tests once a fortnight.
He has sent me to a nutritionalist, he has left the exercise part up to me as I am currently getting the results.
I am always happy to hear over peoples input.

regards John
