Is it true that when Steve Reeves began training that he used the same routine for the first year?

I heard that somewhere and thought it was pretty interesting.

Don't know if you've seen this and I don't know if he used it for a year, but here is the workout Reeves used in his garage when he first started. Reeves had carved it in the wall of the garage and told George Helmer about it many years later. Helmer had to tear out drywall to find this "Holy Grail". The pics are from Reeves' book, "Building the Classic Physique The Natural Way".

Mark:  Thank you for that!  Unbelievable!  Indiana Jones couldn't have done a better job, it's like finding the Dead Sea Scrolls!  That little house and garage in Oakland... it's incredible to think that the most perfect physique the world has ever seen was created there.  The actual routine written on the walls of the Great Pyramid by Hercules himself.  I have goosebumps.   Cool

I feel the same way, Dallas! I would like to see the section. George Helmer cut out the piece of the wall that contained the routine. It is in the possession of the Steve Reeves International Society. Maybe I'll get a glimpse of it someday.

Wow. That really is a true bodybuilding relic, much like the original Sandow trophies, which I believe Steeve Reeves also once had, and is also in hands of the Steve Reeves International Society if I'm not mistaken.

Seems like the Steve Reeves International Society is the bodybuilding world's version of the Knights Templar.

What else do you think (that actually exists) would be classed as a true bodybuilding treasure?

That's a very interesting question. Maybe deserves it's own thread. I would like to have this barbell and crazy plates that Reeves is using here...

Wow, photos of Reeves I have never seen before. Love the photo of Steve and George Eifferman on the beach probably 1947. They were both vets and got $25 dollars a week for a year post discharge. They roomed together and spent the year training. Both won the AAU Mr. A and both won the Mr. U. Can you imagine the stir Steeve made on that beach. He is only about 22 here but was an Army combat veteran of the Philippines campaign.
